Charles L. Bowman and Co., New York
Charles L. Bowman and Co. succeeded the Union Library Association in 1907. The Union Library's predecessors were Hill and Harvey and later J. A. Hill and Co.
This New York firm began publishing Bowman’s Illustrated Library of World Famous Books in 1908. This series consisted of numerous popular titles such as, Tom Brown’s School Days, Robinson Crusoe, Pilgrim’s Progress, Lamb’s Tales from Shakespeare, etc. Titles were added yearly for the first several years.
I am aware of one Mayne Reid title: The Scalp Hunters. It was published in 1910. It is crown octavo in size.
The one book I have seen in this series has red cloth. Gold gilt decorative spine and the title in gold gilt on the upper left corner of the cover. I suspect (but am far from certain) that the Mayne Reid book is identical.
