Homewood Publishing Company, Chicago
The Homewood Publishing Company was incorporated in 1902. Its
principals were Arthur B. Schaffner, Harry Goodman and Arthur L.
Schwartz. Many of its books were published in the exact same format as
the W. B. Conkey Company published books. In fact, in some instances
the series name was unchanged.
The relationship between Conkey and Homewood is unclear to me at this time.
Conkey published a number of series which included Mayne Reid titles.
At this time I am only aware of one Homewood series that had a Mayne
Reid title. Below is a book from the Abbey Series. In the Conkey Abbey
Series there were two Mayne Reid titles: Scalp Hunters and Rifle
Rangers. So far, only the Rifle Rangers has been seen in the Homewood
Abbey series. It is presumed that the Scalp Hunters is also in this
series.
