Hovendon Company, New York

Hovendon succeeded the International Book Company in 1892. The company was run by John W. Hovendon. Hovendon’s company succeeded the International Book Co. where he had been the manager. This firm went into receivership in 1893.

I have only seen two Mayne Reid titles from this firm.

The Adventure Series included at least The Bush Boys and Afloat in the Forest (Picture courtesy of Rob Kasper). Most likely there are other Reid titles in this series.

Interestingly the spine notes Hovendon whereas the title page states John W. Lovell Company. These books are cloth in dark blue. 12 mo. size. Probably date from about 1892-1893.
