The Mershon Company, New York and Rahway, New Jersey
The Mershon Company published only one Mayne Reid title: The Wood
Rangers. It was part of the Wideawake Library.
This multivolume library of juvenile reprints was published
before and after 1905. In 1905 the Stitt Publishing Company printed
this Library.
The Wideawake Library was first published with a short list in 1901.
The number of titles was expanded significantly thereafter. The Mayne
Reid title was first included in 1902. Mershon published the The Wood
Rangers in 1902-1904 and 1906.
The Wideawake library books have been seen with multiple different
covers. As of this time, The Wood Rangers have only been seen with the
“tent cover”.
