Stitt Publishing Company, New York
The Stitt Publishing Company succeeded Mershon Publishing Company in
1905.
It only published books in 1905. It printed one Mayne Reid
book. "The Wood Rangers" was part of the Stitt publisher's series, the
Wideawake Library. The Wideawake Library was a large juvenile series of
reprints. The cover below is one of several from that series.
When W. M. Stitt retired from the publishing business at the end of
1905, Mershon took over.
The Chatterton-Peck Company purchased the Mershon
Publishing Company in 1906. Many of the Chatterton-Peck juvenile books
were initially published by Mershon prior to 1905 and later by its
successor The Stitt Publishing Company in 1905.
This book originally had a dust jacket which has the same
picture as the cover. Unfortunately I have not seen the Mayne Reid book
with a jacket but below is another title from the Wideawake Library
with its dust jacket.
